
Phoebe Vickers Fairly, age 93, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her home on May 4, 2016. She was born on July 6, 1922, in Nederland, Texas, the first child of Anna Smith and Nathaniel Cobb Vickers. A kind, thoughtful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who inspired others to love well and celebrate everything, she grew up in Baton Rouge, graduating from Baton Rouge High in 1939 and LSU in 1943. She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) C. Fairly, of Tallulah, LA, at her home church, First United Methodist of Baton Rouge, in 1948. They lived in Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi before retiring to Baton Rouge in 1993. Phoebe is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Peggy Mitchel Jaubert and brother Allen Douglas Vickers. She is survived by her son Robert (Rob) C. Fairly, Jr, and his wife Pamela H. Fairly, three beloved grandchildren, Jennifer, Susannah and Tripp Fairly, sister in laws Betti Dell Vickers and Sue Fairly Edrington and brother in law Bill Edrington, all of Baton Rouge, and other close family members in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana. The service to celebrate her life will be held at noon on Friday, May 6, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. The Fairly family will receive friends at First UMC at 10:30 prior to the service. Entombment will be at Rose Lawn Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Hospice of Baton Rouge or First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge.
