

Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Elaine was
born in Baton Rouge on January 25, 1922 to her parents Dudley J. and
Genevieve Hines Bourgeois. After graduating from Baton Rouge High School
in 1940, where she was in the Honor Club and on the Swim Team, she
married her husband of 64 years George Osmond Maher Jr. and raised their
three children: Douglas Adele (Doug) Maher, George O. (Ozzie) Maher,
III, and Timothy Ray (Tim) Maher. After graduating from nursing school,
she worked for private practice doctors before working many years at the
Baton Rouge General Hospital, before retiring. Elaine continued a
healthy, athletic lifestyle winning medals in at least (2) 10k Great
River Road Runs and the Senior Olympics, and enjoyed many years of square
dancing with George. She was a devout Christian, an avid bible reader,
and an active member and volunteer of St. Aloysius Catholic Church
during her many years living in the Southdowns area. Elaine lived the
final years of her life in Watson, LA with her son and daughter-in-law,
Ozzie and Carolyn, being "spoiled" by them and her two granddaughters, April
Kelly Maher and April Matranga. On moving to Watson, she became a member
of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Tim; her parents; her two
brothers, Pat and Teddy Bourgeois; and her sister, Doris B. Voelker.
She is survived by her daughter, Doug; her son, Ozzie and
daughters-in-law, Carolyn (Ozzie) and Marilyn (Tim); her grandsons, Billy
Hawkins (Jettye), George Wylie Jr., Jonathan Maher (April K.), and James
Schroeder (Lisa); her granddaughters, Jennifer Johnson, Nikki Maher, Amanda
Greenlee (Adam), Wyndy Weber (Jason), April Matranga (Sean), Misty
Salter (Blaine), Magen Maher; and numerous great grandchildren, great
great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer Center.
The family would like to give warm and special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey
Kahn and staff at the Baton Rouge Clinic, the emergency room staff at
Our Lady of the Lake, Pat Venable her Eucharistic minister and Father
Frank from Immaculate Conception, and her bus drivers and friends at the
Council on Aging in Denham Springs.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 9595
Florida Blvd. on Saturday October 3, 2020 from 10:30 am until the
service at 12:00 noon, followed by an outdoor service and inurnment.
All friends and family are invited to attend. Facemasks and social
distancing are still required.
