Rachel Coates

Rachel LaVerne Coates, a native of Springhill, LA and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on June 15, 2013 at St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge. At the age of 7, Rachel was placed in an orphanage in Ruston, LA. She attended high school in Ruston as well as Louisiana Tech. After moving to Baton Rouge to live close to her sister, Rachel began a career in the hotel business bookkeeping at the Belmont and managing at the Howard Johnson, and also managing a hotel in Miami. She also worked for Resolution Trust Co. in Liberty, TX and Monroe, LA, eventually retiring after managing Siegen Oaks Apartments in Baton Rouge. She loved her work and when she was not working she worshipped at The Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, and enjoyed relaxing at home watching Christian television programming like The 700 Club and TBN. Rachel is survived by her children, Donna Rushing, Eyler “Bobby” Coates and Carl D. Coates; grandchildren, Tracy Laird, Wendy Moss, Rocky Moss, George Coates, John Coates, Carl J. Coates, Michael Coates, Christopher Coates and Anthony Coates; 5 great grandchildren; nieces, Connie Sue Kennedy and Deborah Waites; and nephews, Alvin DeBlieux and Michael Waites. She was preceded in death by her parents, Minor H. and Jessie Arnold Johnson; sister, Nina Neval DeJean; brother, Calvin Coolidge Waites; and grandson, Robert Paul Coates.A Memorial Service will be held at 12pm, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at HeartsEase Family Life Church, 12112 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, www.hflc.us.
