Richard Warren Carpenter passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, age 95. Richard (Dick) was the beloved husband of Frances McCormick Carpenter. Dick and Fran were married for 68 years and had three children together, Michael Carpenter, Carolyn Carpenter Biggio (Thomas) and Sheila Carpenter Pecot (Greg). Born on November 8, 1928, in Hague, New York, Richard Carpenter was the son of Harold and Zella Carpenter. Dick spent his childhood on the family's small dairy farm alongside his sister Betty and brother John. Lake George and the Adirondack Mountain area always remained special to him, even years later after moving away to pursue a career. He spent six years traveling the world serving his country during the Korean War, later returning home to complete his degree from Colgate University. Once He and Fran got married, they settled in Columbus, Ohio, until a job relocation led them to Baton Rouge in 1967. Dick changed careers to become a stockbroker, where he enjoyed a successful and long career. Throughout his entire life, he was a competitor in various sports. He played basketball in high school, college, and the Army, later becoming a great golfer and tennis player. After the move to Baton Rouge, he became a dedicated LSU fan, especially enjoying basketball and regularly attending home games with Fran for many years. He was blessed with a quick wit and intelligence, but he mostly will be remembered as a kind and loving husband and father. We will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren, John Biggio, Paige Carpenter Cope, Jack Carpenter, Scott Carpenter, Kevin Carpenter, Kelly Pecot; step grandchildren, Jennifer Pecot Lacoste and Katie Pecot; and great grandchildren, Braxton Biggio, Lundin and Charley Cope.
