George William Curtis once said, "Patriotism knows neither latitude nor longitude. A man's country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers and woods, but is a principle; and patriotism is unending loyalty to that principle." Robert L. Breton, age 93, lay to rest in the arms of our Lord at Golden Age Nursing Home in Denham Springs, LA, the evening of December 22, 2014. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the kind and compassionate physicians and staff who have cared for him for the past 8 years. Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, military servant, friend and entertainer, Bob leaves his wife Pauline ("Nonie") of 72 years; daughter Eileen Kleinpeter and husband Thomas "Tommy" Kleinpeter, Jr.; grandchildren Shawn Kleinpeter and his wife Nicole Kleinpeter; David Kleinpeter and his wife Kris Kleinpeter; Robin Green and her husband Mike Green; great grandchildren Breton, Abigail and Sinclair Green and Hannah, Mason, Camille and Thomas Kleinpeter; and many loving family members, friends and fellow servicemen. He is preceded in death by his parents Grace Sampson Breton and Robert Elzear Breton, and brother Elzear D. Breton, Jr. "Paw Paw" was born in Cambridge, MA, and attended Notre Dame de Pitie before enlisting in the military at a young age, just after the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. As Robert Ingersoll once said, "He who loves his country best strives to make it best"¦" Sgt. Robert Breton did just that, bravely dedicating his early career to serving in World War II with his fellow crewmen in the Army Air Brigade's 31st Bombardment Squadron on more than 40 international air combat missions in the Pacific Theater. Highly decorated for his exemplary service, he retired from the Army in 1945 following the war, and eventually moved his family to Louisiana in 1957 where they have lived since. Bob loved spending time with his family; getting together for reunions with his squadron from WWII; traveling across the country with Nonie in their RV; and camping with the grandkids. Paw Paw was most proud of his beautiful wife, daughter, and family, and they will always remember his patriotism and sense of honor; his warm smile and sense of humor; and least we not forgot, the way he could light up a room at Christmas time with a song, singing and playing the piano. Visitation at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge is scheduled Friday, December 26 at 9am, with funeral mass following at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
