
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bob died peacefully at his home in Baton Rouge on June 25, 2016. He was born September 27, 1926 in San Francisco, CA and was a long-time resident of Baton Rouge. He was an avid gardener and always had a beautiful assortment of plants and flowers decorating his home. He also loved his birds and fed them faithfully to keep them coming back. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 72 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He received a bachelor of arts degree in 1946 and a juris doctor degree in 1949, both from Louisiana State University. He was a member of the Order of the Coif and associate editor of the Louisiana Law Review. He was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School and he served as an adjunct professor at Louisiana State University Law School where he taught for many years. He had a remarkable career in public service and was an accomplished attorney. He was the chief counsel for the Louisiana Department of Revenue and served as Collector of Revenue for the state of Louisiana under Governor Earl K. Long. He also served as interim judge for the 19th Judicial District Court. He was appointed by the Louisiana House of Representatives to the Louisiana Board of Ethics for Elected Officials and served as chairman of the Board of Ethics for many years. Bob maintained a private practice with the law firm of Watson, Blanche, Wilson&Posner for over 60 years. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association and served as president from 1980 to 1981. He was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and served on the board of governors. He was also a member of the American Academy of Healthcare Attorneys and a member of Baton Rouge Rotary. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Shirley Roland; daughter Sarah Roland Broome; son Robert L. Roland and wife Erin; grandchildren Michael Harrell, Lauren Harrell, Lt. Alex Harrell (U.S.N.), Ashley Roland Wolff, and Gage Roland; and great-granddaughter Emma Wolff. He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Roland Harrell, parents Harry L. and Edith K. Roland, and brother Harry L. Roland Jr. Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church, 930 N. Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70802 on Friday, July 1, 2016 beginning at 10 a.m. until services at 12 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Inurnment to follow in the church Columbarium.
