Robert Shands Leake

Robert Shands Leake passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010, at home in Baton Rouge. He was born in New Orleans on April 13, 1940, to Hunter Collins II and Eleanor Shands Leake. He graduated from New Orleans Academy in 1958. He earned a bachelor's degree from LSU, where he was the Distinguished Military Graduate of the ROTC unit, a member of the Pershing Rifles drill team and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He received a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army in 1962, where he served as an intelligence officer until his honorable discharge in 1967. He returned to LSU where he earned his law degree in 1971. He served the community as an attorney in both public and private practice, including assistant U.S. attorney and deputy director for litigation in the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, until his retirement in 2006. He was an active member of St Paul's Anglican Church and secretary for Feliciana Lodge 31 F&AM. His faith and mentorship at both were a treasured source of inspiration to the members. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandra Soileau Leake; children, U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Robert Timothy Leake, and wife Julia, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Kristin Kae Leake and husband Nick, of Washington, D.C.; and brother, Dr. Hunter Collins Leake Ill and wife Janet, of Fort Myers, Fla. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Alexandra Tanner Leake and Catherine Elizabeth Leake, of Jacksonville; and many other relatives and friends.
