Rodney Cary

Rodney Douglas Cary passed away peacefully Saturday, May 21, 2022 at his home. Rodney was born on August 7, 1938 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The family moved to Baton Rouge in 1951 where he graduated from BRHS in the class of 1956 and attended LSU. After that he held several jobs prior to opening Southdowns Lounge in March of 1968 and continued operating until its closing in 2013. He was preceded in death by parents, Bennie and Olga Beverly Hastings Cary and daughter, Rhonda Lea Cary Fauntleroy. He is survived by daughters, Lisa K. Cary and Darane Cary Wiley; sister, Rebecca Cary Blum; grandsons Cole L. and Hunter (Erin) Fauntleroy and great grandchildren Natalie, Joseph H. Jr. and Kase Fauntleroy.

Per Rodney’s wishes there will be no service. For those who have known Rodney for many years and would like to celebrate his life, please raise a glass and make a toast or donate to your favorite charity in his name!
