Ronald Read

Ronald Read, a resident of DeRidder and past native of Baton Rouge, passed away November 5, 2023 at the age of 84. Ron was born in Lake Charles, LA in 1939; and graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1957. Attending McNeese State University, he graduated with a bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1961 and proudly served in the United States Army for 3 years. Moving to Baton Rouge in the late 60’s, he worked as a process operator for Allied Chemical (Nutrien) for 35 years. He met his wife, Noel, when he joined a Baton Rouge bowling league. An avid vegetable gardener, he loved to dabble in the stock market and enjoyed taking leisure learning classes through LSU. Everyone he met was his neighbor. A faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church in Zachary, LA, his favorite bible verse was Micah 6:8.

Ron is survived by his three daughters: Alison Foster (Andy) of Baker, LA, Kelly Lewis (Curt) of DeRidder, LA., and Margaret Read (Michael Margonis) of Newport, Rhode Island; five grandchildren, Natalie Foster, Avery Foster, Haleigh Foster, Kent Lewis, and Katie Lewis.

Preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Noel Claire Vavasseur Read, his mother Geraldine “Jerry” Bumpus Hannan and stepfather’s Custer P. Hannan and Clarence A. “Jack” Bumpus and father John S. Read and stepmother Christine Read.

Visitation will take place at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA. 70815, on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 9:30am until service time of 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Gregoire, Kent Lewis, Avery Foster, and Don Couvillon. Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Read, and Steu Read.

Special thanks to Westwood Manor Nursing home, specifically Tammy Higginbotham, Delores Bentley and William Bentley, for their professionalism and tenderness in his final days.
