Ruby Lee Becnel, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a native of North Little Rock, AR, and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Born on December 25, 1930, Ruby was the daughter of Wallace Colvert and Thelma Mina West. She grew up in North Little Rock, graduating from North Little Rock High School before attending business school. On February 1, 1952, Ruby married the love of her life, Norman J. Becnel. Their extraordinary 73-year marriage was a true testament to devotion, partnership, and enduring affection. Together they were blessed with two children, Gregory Joseph and Susan Catherine, whom they lovingly raised. Ruby took great pride in being a homemaker and full-time mother, creating a warm, supportive home where her children felt deeply cherished. In later years, she embraced the role of grandmother with joy—happily spoiling her grandchildren and celebrating every milestone. Ruby found comfort in the simple pleasures that brought her peace: completing crossword puzzles, creating beautiful cross-stitch pieces, and collecting Precious Moments figurines. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted parishioner of St. Thomas More and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and carried an unwavering love for the Catholic Church throughout her life. Ruby is survived by her loving husband, Norman J. Becnel; son, Greg J. Becnel; daughter, Susan Becnel Magill and husband, Paul; grandson, Paul P. Magill, Jr. and wife, Cree Kinnard; granddaughter, Kelly Magill Pilcher and husband, Ross; great-grandchildren, Harlee, Hannah, and Sutton; sister, Barbra; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored her. Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Thelma Colvert; and her sister, Janet Thomas. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her dedicated caregivers, Wanda Hayes and Christine Griffin, and to the staff of Zachary Manor Nursing Home for their exceptional compassion and care. Ruby will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her steadfast faith, and the boundless love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and cherished her. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 9:30am until the funeral service at 11am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruby’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
