A native and life-long resident of Baton Rouge, Steve lived a joyful, adventurous, and compassionate life. He was a retired Social Worker with an accomplished career in Mental Health. Steve was a friend to the friendless, helping those in need with an open heart and a ready smile. He gave of his time freely, volunteering at Boys Hope and as a Reading Friend at Highland Elementary School. An avid storyteller and amateur actor with the Baton Rouge Little Theater, Steve took mischievous pride in being "rude, crude, and socially unacceptable." He was loved by many for his laughter, generosity, and irreverent sense of humor. He lived life out loud, and will never, ever be forgotten. Steve started his career as Navy Shipman, whereby he earned the privilege of receiving care from the Louisiana War Veterans Home in his final years. The family extends their gratitude to the War Vets Home for their outstanding love and care of Steve and other honored veterans. Steve passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Kleinpeter Lefeaux; his father, Russell Stephen Lefeaux, Sr.; and plenty of friends and relatives who are happy to see him again. He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Jane Lefeaux and Betsy Lefeaux Beaird; former wife and life-long friend, Phyllis Johnson Lefeaux; son-in-law Tommy Gene Beaird; and grandchildren Zackery Ryan Beaird and Ruby Claire Beaird. Visitation at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave. on Thursday, March 10 from 4:30-6:00, immediately followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Reading Friend Program of University Baptist Church, 5775 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. Shine on you crazy diamond.
