

Sam J Bellina, a native of Donaldsonville and resident of Baton Rouge, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the age of 90. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in World War II. Sam retired from barbering at the age of 84, a career he thoroughly enjoyed, making numerous friends along the way. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed. He loved family get togethers and took pride in preparing his special fried chicken.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Ruby Fernandez Bellina; their three children: Gerry Bellina, Cindy Keith (Mike), Marisa Villemarette (Bobby); grandchildren: Ashley Robbins (Brad), Jason Villemarette, Chris Hudson (Maria), and Robbie Villemarette (Brandi); eight great-grandchildren; and sisters: Annie Breaux, and Angelina Ourso.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Anna Bellina; siblings: Grace Messina, Joe, Louis, Mike, Sam, Angelo, Benny, Tony, Frank, Eddie, and his beloved son, Sammy. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30, from 5-8 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Visitation will continue on Monday, May 1, from 9:30 - 11:00 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd., Greenwell Springs, LA. A funeral mass will follow with Father Jeff Bayhi as the celebrant. Burial will take place at Greenoaks Cemetery. Special thanks to his caregivers at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA, where he resided for 2 1/2 years, in particular to Rose and Jennifer who endeared themselves to Sam and his family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at P.O. Box 127, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. Please indicate "Memorial for Sam Bellina".
