Sammy, 92, died peacefully at The Carpenter House on June 26, 2013. He was born in Gonzales on July 24, 1920, but was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was the founder and previous co-owner of Bourque Printing. Sammy was a veteran and member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, High Twelve Club, Al Azar Grotto, a Corvair club, and Fairfield Lodge 422. Sammy had a passion for restoring antique cars and solving word puzzles in the morning paper. He will be fondly remembered for his gentility, charm and sense of humor that lit up any room. He had a zest for life and remarkable presence that could only be understood by those who knew him. People and animals alike were drawn to his sweet-tempered and magnetic nature. He answered to many terms of endearment, including Poot, Cutie-Pie, and D.O.M. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Bourque, parents Sam Joseph and Cornelia Bourque, six siblings, and a granddaughter, Dyan Bourque. He is survived by his daughter Sandra and her husband Barry Braucht; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Don Bourque and Gary and Maurene Bourque; sister-in-law but more like a daughter, Gayle Pearce; grandchildren Kim, Devon, Dana, and Dawn; and great-grandchildren Emily, Madeline, Lauren, Ashley and Haley. We are all better people for having known and loved him. Visitation will be Friday June 28, 2013 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m., with Masonic service at 7 p.m. Visiting continues at the funeral home on Saturday June 29, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. till service time at 10 a.m.
