
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith" 2 Timothy 4:7. Samuel Newbern Brown Jr., 69, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006. A resident of Baton Rouge, Sam was born inTarboro, N.C., and grew up inRichmond, Va.After graduating from the Virginia Military Institute in 1958, he was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force and received a master's degree fromPurdueUniversity. In 1969, he resigned his commission to accept a position with Ethyl Corp. and continued in the Air Force Reserves, later attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel (retired 1983). Sam later started a land-surveying business, serving many in the community until just before his death. Sam is survived by his mother, Helen Vick Brown; brother, Robert Lee Brown; former wife, Linda Coy Locke; and children, Jeffrey Marshall Brown and his wife, Margaret Vanderlick Brown, Christine Brown Stubbs and her husband, Darren Paul Stubbs, and Robert Wesley Brown and his wife, Kathryn Miller Brown. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Brycen Samuel Stubbs, Haley Elizabeth Stubbs, Jeffrey Paul Brown, Mason Cole Stubbs and Caroline Marie Brown. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel N. Brown Sr. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m.until funeral service at 10:30 a.m.Graveside service atPortHudsonNationalCemetery.
