
Sally Brunson died on Thursday April 17, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was born July 28, 1922, in Newton, Iowa, the only child of Chester Scott Fleming and Miriam Hindorff Fleming. She spent her youth in Iowa until the family moved to Everett, Wash., where Sally attended high school and graduated from the University of Washington. She was a journalism major, a Phi Beta Kappa and a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Sally was a resident of Baton Rouge for 51 years who lived in Oak Hills Place, the Country Club of Louisiana and most recently St. James Place. She attended St. James Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the St. Monica's Study Chapter. She was a longtime volunteer at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and a member of PEO, Daughters of the American Revolution, Les Liseuses Book Club, Baton Rouge Cat Club and numerous other social and civic organizations. She was also a member of the "Bridge Club," a group of friends which has met monthly for more than 50 years. Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Fitzhugh "Jim" Brunson. Survived by a son, Randolph Asa Brunson, Baton Rouge; daughter, Carol Lackey and husband James, Forest, Miss., and Shelbyville Tenn.; and daughter, Grace Simcoe and husband Joseph, Port Hudson. She was a devoted grandmother who cherished her six grandsons, Andrew Wiseman, Carter Simcoe, Asher Simcoe, Owen Simcoe, Clark Simcoe and Asa Brunson. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, April 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Francisville. Religious service conducted by the Rev. John Senette will begin at 11 a.m. with inurnment and graveside service following immediately in the adjoining church cemetery.
