Seaborn Bufford Young Jr. passed away on June 8, 2022, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Seab was born in 1935 in Lafayette, Louisiana, to loving parents Seaborn B. Young and Cora Lee H. Young. After graduation from Lafayette High School (playing football and tuba in the band), he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve, and served from 1954 to 1961, including a 2-year active-duty tour in Japan. He married his high school sweetheart, Marlin, in 1957. Seab earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. His engineering career took him to both the East and West coasts of the U.S. and many parts of the world including Africa, Europe, Indonesia and Japan. He worked on a wide variety of projects including atomic energy research, petroleum refining and most notably, project management on the largest sugar refinery in the world located in the Sudan. He also designed and built custom homes in Baton Rouge and founded a greenhouse indoor recirculating fish farm in Mississippi. Seab is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marlin, his brother David and his wife Ilora Young, his sister Marcia and her husband Carter Stewart, his son Stuart and his wife Lynn, daughter Lauren and her husband Michael Pursley, and granddaughter Clarice and her husband David Hess, along with a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Seab became a Christian at a very young age in the Baptist Church. He led others he met in his travels to accept Jesus as their Savior. He also served as a lay pastor in the United Methodist Church and led Bible Study classes for many years. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Methodist Church, 230 Renee Drive, Baton Rouge, LA, June 17, 2022. Viewing at 1 pm until services begin at 3 pm. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
