Sharon Sue Camp Greer, 77, of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, after a brief illness. She was comforted by her loving husband and step-daughter who were at her side and by others who were with her in spirit and prayer. She was born on January 6, 1945, in Birmingham, AL, and was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Lee Jones, father, George Lewis Camp, step-father, Roy H. Jones, and sister, Lee Jones.
After surrendering her life to Christ, Sharon spent much time studying the Bible and enjoyed hearing the message of Christ preached in person, on television, and through many audio lecture series in which she enjoyed. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of America, and after achieving her goal of reading the King James version of the bible all the way through, Sharon decided to complete the entire task two more times. Mrs. Greer was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, GA and developed special connections with several ministers along the way, including Frank Barker of Birmingham, AL and Tim Power of LaGrange, GA.
During many of her younger years, Sharon worked as an Insurance Administrator for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Birmingham, AL, where she met the love of her life Chester Levi Greer. Sharon delighted in the beauty of nature and tending to God’s creatures. She spoiled her indoor “fur-babies” (especially Sydney and Simon) as she diligently tended to flower and herb gardens and ensured all local varieties of birds would not go hungry throughout the changing seasons. Sharon even had special names for the possums who graced her breakfast window in the evenings and strict instructions to her husband as to when and what to feed all of them.
Many people described Sharon as a classy lady who had little difficulty making decisions. She was a firm matriarch of high standards and expectations tempered with a loving heart and passion for the underdog. She was a shopper’s shopper and a delight to go shopping with. As a world traveler and South Korean expatriate (1982-1985), Sharon enjoyed experiencing new cultures and cuisine and sharing a good cup of coffee or glass of Burgundy with others she met along the way. She was a lover of art in all forms and filled her home with special mementos from near and far.
Sharon enjoyed various forms of entertainment, including assembling massive jigsaw puzzles, reading a variety of literature, painting landscape and still-life images, and various other crafts. One would often find her watching Fox News, NYPD Blue, Hill Street, or her favorite movie, Casablanca. While living in Korea, Sharon’s sweet parents recorded all episodes of Dallas and General Hospital on VHS tape so she could watch them upon her return. In later years, though she refused to own a smartphone, Sharon spent countless hours playing puzzle games on her computer and iPad and was an expert at Angry Birds.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Chester Levi Greer of Baton Rouge, LA. Also mourning her loss are step-daughter Elizabeth Gail Greer of Natchez, MS, brother Roy H. Jones, Jr. of Birmingham, AL, and special cousin Suzanne Hagar of Montgomery, AL. Sharon will be greatly missed by her grandson Justin Levi Koehler (Peyton) and great-grandchildren Brody Levi and Caroline Grace of Natchez, MS as well as by grandson Donavan Casey Koehler (Angelique) and great-grandchildren Luca Dayce and Mila Wren of Magnolia, MS.
Sharon will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Her influence on our hearts and lives will not be forgotten. Our sad loss is Heaven’s eternal gain.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Union Church Baptist Church, 18042 Highway 28, Union Church, MS 39668, from 11:00am until service at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family of Sharon C. Greer are invited to donate to a charity of their choice or to the McBride Cemetery Association, 1895 Pap Goza Road, Pattison, MS 39144.
