A “finder,” a “collector,” a “rejuvenator” and a regular on the University Gardens/Southdown’s garage-sale circuit -- Sharon Lytle Hoffeld passed away in Covington early on 16 February from natural causes. She was 81. One of Clinton’s and Baton Rouge’s prettiest ladies, she was also one of their most eclectic. She had a BS and MA in speech pathology from LSU and continued her passion for learning throughout her life and career, which finished as the editor of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association Magazine. Crocheting, macramé, sewing, caning, sculpture, fishing, home-repair, Bible-study, rock/gem-collecting, camping, reading, and caring for animals is only a truncated list of her interests. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Patricia and Sherman Lytle of Clinton, La.; her former husband, Donald Hoffeld; and Kiki and the many other beloved cats raised in the Shar-Hoff Cattery. She was survived by her proud-of-her-colorfulness-and-grit-son, Scott Hoffeld and his wife, Molly (Distefano), and her granddaughters, Amelia and Ava - and Timmy, their and Sharon’s cat; her daughter, Rachael Norsworthy, her husband Joel and their daughter and son Katie and Eric; her sister, Dr. Sheila Moore; her nephews, Charlie and Chip Moore, their wives and children; her in-law nieces and nephews, Jamie and Mike Swierc, Lisa Distefano, and Scott Distefano, who adopted Sharon as their other “mother” over the years; and Josh. Special thanks is extended to her selfless and caring neighbors and friends, Gerry and Bobby Arnold, Ed Atkins, Jackie Carnes, Evelyn Netterville, Shara Luman, caretaker Doris Brooks, and the St. James Episcopal Church Bible Study and greater community. Visitation to celebrate Sharon’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, 21 February at the St. James Episcopal Church Chapel in Baton Rouge, followed by a mass at 11:30 a.m. and private interment at the Masonic Cemetery in Clinton, La. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cat Haven or Friends of Animals in Baton Rouge, which appreciatively found a home for Josh, her beloved 14-year-old Catahoula-son. Rabenhorst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
