Sharye Laverne King Vaughan

Laverne King Vaughan, one of God’s greatest creations, passed away on April 11, 2016 in Baton Rouge at the age of 74. She was the devoted wife of Rayford “Sonny” Vaughan for 53 years and mother to three children, Sharye, Kevin, and Michael. A native of Pine Grove, Louisiana, Laverne graduated from Istrouma High School in 1959. Many will remember her as a fixture of the family business, Vaughan Roofing and Sheet Metal, where she expertly handled all aspects of the company. She was well known for her calm demeanor and quick smile. It was impossible to remain angry or sad in her presence. She had a knack for making a person’s day better with a few kind words and a pat on the back. She was preceded in death by her father, Norman H. “Jack” King, her mother Vera Jones King, and brothers Jerry and Fred King. She is survived by daughter Dr. Sharye Atchison and husband Dr. Steve Atchison, son Kevin Vaughan and wife Lysi Vaughan, and son Michael Vaughan and wife Kelly Vaughan. She has nine grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Luke and Jordan Atchison, Will and Emma Vaughan, and Hannah, Britt, and Camille Vaughan. Funeral services will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home at 9595 Florida Blvd. on Friday April 15, 2016 at 10:00am with visitation to begin at 8:30am until service time. Laverne was first and foremost concerned about the well-being of others so in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Alzheimer Services of the Capital Area (225) 334-7494 in her memory.
