

Born July 2, 1922, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022 after 100 wonderful event-filled years. She was an activist in civil rights, mental health, women’s rights and a patron of the arts. She was the last of four siblings, daughter of Marion Wolper and Isadore Green, sister of the late Alan Green, Phyllis Kurson and Milton Green and their surviving families. She was married to the late Wilbur Marvin for 30 years. She had 3 children, the late Michael Marvin, and is survived by daughter Anne Marvin and son Richard Marvin and his spouse Theresa (Tee Abadie) Marvin. She was dedicated to her grandchildren, Jennie Cerrati (Mike), Tory Abadie (Candy), Macere Molliere (Bodie), Sam Marvin (Rebecca), Mary Shaw (Josh) and T. Forrest Marvin all of whose lives are immeasurably enriched for having deep relationships with this incredible woman. Her Great Grandchildren include Jack, Ben, Cady, Frankie, Jane, Corinna, Brandon, London, Brianna & Blayze. Shirley embraced her role as a Jewish Matriarch and always put her family and children first. A graduate of Wellesley College with a Masters at LSU, she was a life long learner forever attending classes and seminars. Shirley created a network of close friends from all walks of life. She was involved in political campaigns often hosting events for presidential or local candidates. She organized the Women’s Pavilion in 1984 in NOLA as part of the World’s Fair. She will forever be tied to the arts through her patronage of the artist Noel Rockmore. With her son Richard and daughter-in-law Tee, she went on a 10 year successful journey to get Rockmore recognized in the art world. She was active in NAMI as she helped her son Michael navigate his mental illness throughout his life. She was in constant contact with her daughter Anne who always provided love and emotional support. She credited the key to her 100 years to walking and her ability to constantly make new close friends. She has been described as persistent, driven, indomitable, a force of nature and a loving caring soul. All that knew her will carry her spirit forward. She will be missed and her memory will always be a blessing. A public burial service will be held at 2PM Thursday October 13th at the Jewish Cemetery at 1415 North Street in Baton Rouge LA. A celebration of Life will follow at the Unified Jewish Congregation at 9111 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA, 70809.
