
A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at age 87. Preston was a native of Lake Charles and a resident of Baton Rouge for 59 years. He was a retired executive director of the Associated General Contractors, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a past master of St. James 47, F&AM and the York and Scottish Rite Bodies. Preston was a 1948 graduate of LSU, an active member of Jefferson Baptist Church and a member of Rev. T.C. French's Sunday school class. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Self Eggers; two sons, Dr. Stan Eggers and wife Lee, and Glen Eggers and wife Yancine; a grandson, Preston Labry Eggers; five granddaughters, Annsley Eggers Popov, Dr. Kendal Eggers O'Hare, Camden Taylor Eggers, Sydney Louise Eggers and Margaret Amanda Eggers; and three great-grandchildren, Preston Vasil Popov, Palmer Adeline Popov and Pierson Ava O'Hare. He is also survived by a brother, Dr. Earl Eggers and wife Dorothy; a sister, Betty Eggers Lancaster; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Gladys Sweeney Eggers; and a brother, William Eggers and wife Garnie. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, Jan. 21, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes Saturday, Jan. 22, after noon until religious services at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. T.C. French. Pallbearers will be Preston L. Eggers, Chris Popov, Preston Popov, Dr. Peter O'Hare, Bingham Stewart and Ken Naquin. Honorary pallbearers are Annsley Popov, Dr. Kendal O'Hare, Camden Eggers, Sydney Eggers and Margaret Eggers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Jefferson Baptist Church, 9135 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 or the charity of your choice.
