Sylvia Leigh (Steinbach) Chauvin

Sylvia Leigh Steinbach Chauvin, 91, native of Pittsburgh, PA and a resident of Houma, LA, passed away on September 2, 2021. She was born on January 18, 1930. Due to Hurricane Ida, a Mass of Christian Burial has been offered at St. Jude Catholic Church of Baton Rouge with Burial at St. Francis II Cemetery in Houma, LA. Sylvia was a graduate of Mount Mercy Academy and the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. She was an airline stewardess with Capital Airlines until becoming a homemaker. Sylvia shared a devotion to the Blessed Mother and membership to the Legion of Mary at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church while a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales in Houma. She was a woman of faith and charitable with her time to others. She loved family gatherings, enjoyed novels and reading and most especially in her leisure, she loved to travel. Sylvia was a dedicated and loving wife, an amazing mother, a caring grandmother, and a true friend. She is survived by her children, Suzanne (David) Doucet; Virginia (Bobby, Jr.) Corte; Larry (Leslie) Chauvin; Michael (Kathy) Chauvin; and Carol (Paul) Patriarco. Grandchildren: Bobby Corte, III, Justin (Elizabeth) Corte, Katie (Blake) Steiner, Stephen (Kandi) Corte, Thomas (Rebecca) Chauvin, Eric Chauvin, Mary Kathryn Doucet, Mark Doucet, Lauren Chauvin, Louis Doucet and Leo Patriarco. Great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Lacey, James, Claire, and Michael Steiner, Cole and Clay Corte, and Peter Corte. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Steinbach Starr. Sylvia is preceded in death by husband, Lawrence Joseph Chauvin, Jr., parents Dr. Leo and Alice Leigh Steinbach; and brother, Dr. Lorne Leigh Steinbach.The Chauvin family is grateful to JoAnn Selvage, Ivy McClain, Dianne Page, and Deaser Ike, who provided exceptional long-term care and continued commitment.
