Thelma Brunette Thompson “MeeMaw” McDowell

McDowell, Thelma Brunette Thompson "MeeMaw""My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever."--Psalm 73:26Thelma was a Christian woman of strong faith and was an original member of the Chapel on the Campus. A native of Tela Honduras, CA and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died on Thursday, December 4, 2014. She was born on December 20, 1923 to Russell and Elise Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard K. McDowell; by her daughter, Sharyn Elise Michaelson; and her grandson, Austin Crouch. Survivors include her daughter, Lauryn and Allen Crouch of Noxapater, MS; her son, Rick and Holly McDowell; her son-in-law, Freddie Michaelson and his wife Jodi;  her grandchildren: Molly Truesdale and husband Ryan, Patrick Michaelson and wife Haaga, Seth Michaelson and Stephanie, Caleb Michaelson; step-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Sarah Harrison; and great-grandchildren: Sharyn Elise, Anna Katherine, Margaret Jane, and Evelyn Rose Truesdale, and Knox, Mac, and Kate Collins Michaelson. She is also survived by her closest friends, Janice Matamoros, Betty Burford, Gail D'Angelo, Julie Phillips, Ellen Elias, and Joyce and Don Driscoll. Her family would also like to acknowledge Thelma's Angels, Pat Williams, Amy Lane, Lucille Sensley, Louise Price, and Lady Di. They would also like to express thanks to the staff at Baton Rouge General Medical Center on Bluebonnet and in particular, Dr. Matt Blanchard; and to the staff of caregivers at St. James Place, truly a caring community. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, from 9am until Service at 10:30am at the Chapel on the Campus, 3355 Dalrymple Drive. Burial will follow at Port Hudson National Cemetery at 1pm. Serving as Pallbearers will be Patrick Michaelson, Seth Michaelson, Caleb Michaelson, Freddie Michaelson, Donnie McDowell, and Allen Crouch.
