
A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away at 12:31 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge. He was 93, son of the late Alder Thomas McGuire and late Mamie Loudon McGuire. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Judy Bergeron McGuire, and Michael and Anne Shaffer McGuire; grandchildren and their spouses, Thomas and Lori McGuire, Maria and Scott Haynes, Roger McGuire, Catherine and Roy Wilty, Michael and Tammy McGuire, and Margaret and Lynwood Dunseith; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Loudon McGuire, Emily, Madelyn, William and John Henry Haynes, Powers and Patrick Wilty, and Christopher and Jonathan McGuire. He was a 1933 graduate of Baton Rouge High School, served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as navigator on a B-24 bomber. He owned Baton Rouge businesses including McGuire Marine Inc. and McGuire Resilient Floors and was co-owner of Lisa's Dress Shop. He was vice-president and manager of radio station WXOK for many years. Mr. McGuire will be remembered for his dedication to many local civic and other causes including the Salvation Army, of which he was twice elected board chairman. Other organizations he belonged to include Theta Kappa Omega fraternity, Local Lenders Finance Co., Public Relations Committee for BREC, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, United Givers Fund, the Cerebral Palsy Association, the March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, Blundon Home Orphanage, the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Baton Rouge Safety Council. He was a past president of the Advertising Club of Baton Rouge from which he won the Pete Goldsby Award for his contribution to advertising and community causes. Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his wife, Madelyn Elwell McGuire; two sisters, Edyth M. Jines and Alder M. Wisdom; and a brother, Albert L McGuire. The family would like to thank Dr. W. Patrick Gahan, Dr. Mohammed Saeed and all the personnel at St. Clare Manor and St. Joseph Hospice. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Saturday, March 13, from 1 p.m. until the religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by Deacon Richard Grant.
