
Thomas "Tommy" W. Minton, 71, of Baton Rouge, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at his home. Tommy was born Feb. 21, 1939, in Shreveport to Jack and Elizabeth Minton. Tommy married Patricia Coddington and they shared 52 years together. Tommy was an employee of Texaco for 31 years, retiring as regional manager of marketing in Baton Rouge. He was an avid outdoorsman from his youth, in particular fishing with his mother at Lake Murvaul in Carthage, Texas. In retirement, Tommy devoted his time to his family, with an enduring attention to his grandchildren, and was known as "Pap." He was an avid reader with a love for tying fly jigs and LSU football. He participated in various volunteer activities, including computer repair with the Cajun Clickers Computer Club in Baton Rouge. Tommy never met a stranger and always enjoyed conversation. Tommy is survived by his wife, Patricia Coddington Minton, of Baton Rouge; daughters, Kelley Minton Sanders, her husband, Wayne, and their children, Brian and Steve, of Cypress, Texas, and Phyllis Minton Covert and her husband, Joseph, of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Lisa McGowan Johnson, of Carthage, and Connie McGowan Thornhill, of Shreveport; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Jack Minton; stepfather, William "Bill" McGowan, who was of Carthage; nephew, Adam Johnston, who was of Carthage; and infant children, Rhonda and Thomas Minton. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, Nov. 27, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at Centuries Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Drive, Shreveport, on Monday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 1 p.m., followed by interment. Pallbearers will be Richard Adams, Joseph Colvert, Derek and Mathew Johnston, Heath Blackburn, Brian, Steve and Wayne Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are Rayburn Thomas, Leroy Terry, Skipper Couvillion and Skipper Cameron. Tommy will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but with us always in our hearts until we see him again one day.
