Vern Anthony Patin Sr passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at his home in Baton Rouge, LA. He was 86 years old. Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of sixty-three years, Mildred Garon Patin of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Rhonda P. Honoré and her husband, Brent S. Honoré of Baton Rouge; two sons, Vern Anthony “Tony” Patin Jr. and his wife, Monica R. Patin of Baton Rouge, and Don L. Patin and his wife, Kaye M. Patin of Shreveport; eight grandchildren, Brittany H. Thomas, Stephanie H. Sanchez, Katherine H. Romig, Anna H. Rucks, Mary Ashton Katz, Leslie P. Phillips, Andrew Patin, and Trish P. Barber; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Jean P. Hudson; and two brothers, Joseph G. Patin, and Kenneth C. Patin. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph G. Patin and Nellie M. Patin; his brother, James Patin; and two infant grandsons, Justin Patin and Vern A. Patin III. Vern, also known as “Pop” and “Uncle Joe” to his family, had a pure and grateful heart, and always expressed gratitude, both to God and others for the many blessings he received throughout his life. Vern was quoted saying “If you have your family, you have everything. And if you have that, you need to thank the Good Lord for it.” These were truly words that he lived by, and he was always there to help others in need, including his beloved nephews that he actively mentored with his vast experience and expertise in the world of masonry. He had an incredible work ethic, and took pride in producing the highest quality product that would stand the test of time and survive long after his time on earth. Vern also had a keen ability to make friends wherever he went, and he never met a stranger. He always had smile on his face, and his smile and laugh were infectious to those around him. He loved to travel, listen to music, dance with his beautiful wife, and catch the occasional bream off his son-in-law’s pier in False River. He was also passionate about maintaining his tomato garden, which he meticulously cared for the majority of his life. Part of his love of gardening came from the ability to share the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Vern was constantly telling stories and sharing his life with others, and it is the hope of his surviving family that his legacy and impact will continue on through the many stories and memories that he shared. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at a 2:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 22, 2021, with visitation at Our Lady of Mercy from 1:30 p.m. until time of services.
