
Dedicated to her family, Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born April 5, 1920, in Clinton to the late Gordon Alvin Powers and Gladys Athelee Powers and passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Ochsner Medical Center at age 87. A 1937 graduate of Baton Rouge High School, she received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from LSU in 1941. After college, she married John W. Lipscomb on April 9, 1942, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Virginia was a member of University United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kay Wulf and husband David, Houston; three sons, John W. "Jack" Lipscomb Jr., and wife Barbara, Hattiesburg, Miss., James Gordon Lipscomb and wife Da'Anne, Zachary, and Richard Lauve Lipscomb and wife Debra, Walnut Grove, N.C.; a beloved sister, Elizabeth Powers Geren, Hendersonville, N.C.; dear aunt, Clara Zachary, Sulphur; three nieces, Natasha Geren Vanderwerf, Julie Geren and Nancy Geren Curtis; grandchildren, Stacy Carmel, David Lipscomb, Jane Barney, Tara Todtenbier, Helen Paige Ceravole, Gordon Lipscomb, Jaime Knight, Natalie Lipscomb, and Ben, Adam and Sarah Wulf; and great-grandchildren, Blake and Cameron Barney, Bailey Todtenbier, Ty and Jake Lipscomb, Kyle and Georgia Knight and Cailyn Wulf. She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Roy and Glen Harvell Lipscomb. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Wednesday, Dec. 26, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 27, from noon until religious services at 2 p.m. in the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. J. Phillip Woodland of University United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park with Gordon and David Lipscomb, Ben and Adam Wulf, Andy Carmel, Scott Barney and Adam Knight serving as pallbearers.
