

Virginia Sue Halbert Tricou died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, July 19, 2025. She was born in Columbia, LA, on November 12, 1938, to Walter and Pauline (neè Thompson) Halbert. She was raised in Waterproof, LA, and was a 1956 graduate of Waterproof High School. She attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA. She moved to Baton Rouge in 1962 and worked for The Boy Scouts of America and New York Life. In 1967 she met the love of her life, George Tricou. They married on Leap Day in 1968 and spent 56 wonderful years together, until his death in 2024. During their marriage, Sue and George loved to have a good time with friends, travel the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Sue was an avid needle pointer; collecting canvases throughout their travels and creating Christmas stockings for her grandchildren. Sue was an active member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church for many years and served as the parsonage manager and Taste Fair Chair throughout the 1980s. After George’s retirement in 1994, they moved to the Country Club of Louisiana, where she was a member of the Garden Club and Parcel Representative to the HOA. Sue is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George Tricou; parents, Walter and Pauline Halbert; beloved brother, Bill Halbert; grandson, Bryan Tricou; and daughter-in-law, Andrea Bugea Tricou. She is survived by son, Mark Tricou and wife, Dawn Tricou; daughter, Lori Tricou Zachary and husband, John Zachary, Jr; grandchildren, Chris Tricou, Catherine Tricou Shelfer and husband Brian Shelfer, Hannah Zachary Kirsch and husband, James Kirsch, Olivia Zachary, and Charlie Oliver; great-grandchildren, Brenna Tricou, Brooks Shelfer, Bennett Shelfer, Diana Kirsch. Charlee Oliver, and Hollis Oliver. The family would like to thank Barbara Crutchfield, Sue’s constant companion and exceptional caregiver; other caregivers, Nicole, Sharonda, Ashley, and Belinda; Clarity Hospice nursing and staff, Keke, Christy, Raven, Terri, LIndsay, Jessica, and Mr. Mike.
