

"Wayne Alan McAlpine passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Nov. 27, 2018, from congestive heart failure at age 78, after living a full and rewarding life. He was born on Jan. 8, 1940 in Chicago, IL, attended Fenger HS and graduated from Calumet HS. After serving in the Air Force from 1958 to 1960 at Keesler AFB, he moved to New Orleans, attended LSUNO and in 1974 obtained a degree in Political Science. In 1976, he was employed by the Louisiana Department of Commerce & Industry in Baton Rouge as an Economic Development Specialist and traveled the country promoting Louisiana. Later, he was promoted to Research & Planning Director. In 1983, he became Information Systems Director and helped to modernize the department's computer system. In 1989, Wayne began his career as Information Systems Director at the Louisiana Secretary of State's office and directed the conversion to a new midrange computer system. He and staff were responsible for implementing an enhanced statewide communications network with databases for the Commercial and Elections Divisions making possible more efficient and easier access for all users. His efforts were instrumental in creating the department's acclaimed website making online access to data available to the public. He retired in January 2005 with over twenty-eight year's service with Louisiana state government. Wayne liked entertaining friends and cooking gourmet dishes. Over the years, he was blessed with many good friends from coast to coast and enjoyed keeping in touch. He was devoted to his family. Wayne was predeceased by parents Theron and Martha Houtsma McAlpine and brother Jerry McAlpine. He is survived by his spouse Glenn R. Williams; mother-in-law Annette Williams; brother-in-law James Williams (wife Toby); sisters-in-law Carole McAlpine and Valinda Williams Dunmeyer; nieces Rene McAlpine Wessel (husband Jeff) and Geri Lynn McAlpine Pinarski (husband Anthony); and nephew James McAlpine. He also leaves behind nineteen great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8th at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation is at 11 am followed with the eulogy delivered by David Grouchy at 11:30 am. The family wishes to thank the many professionals at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center and Pinnacle Home Health Care Hospice.
