

Wickliff “Sam” Joseph Samson, Jr., entered eternal rest at home with his loving wife on Monday, June 21, 2021. He was born May 28, 1943, in Baton Rouge, LA. He volunteered for the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served four years during The Vietnam War. Upon returning to Baton Rouge from his military service, he went to work for Illinois Central Railroad where he worked for 30 years until retirement. He married the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Toni Kling Samson, and together they raised four children, enjoyed 16 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Some of the best times of his life were spent watching his grandsons play baseball, watching his granddaughters grow into beautiful, young women, and spending time with his friends of the American Legion Post 38, where he was the commander for two years. Wick is preceded in death by his father, Wickliff Joseph Samson, Sr.; mother, Mildred Bernard Lemoine; and brother, Charles “Boddie” Samson. Remaining to cherish his memory is his wife, Toni Kling Samson; daughter, Michelle Lee Hobkirk and husband, Khris; and sons, Wickliff Joseph “Joey” Samson III and wife, Julie, Michael Shane Samson and wife, Shauna, and Chris Scott Samson and wife Jamie; grandsons, Dale “D.J.” Guitreau and wife, Caitlin, Brandon Samson, Dustin Guitreau, Gerad Watts, Logan Samson, Keaton Hobkirk, Jackson Samson, Kelby Samson, Carter Samson, Lucas Samson and Kaine Hobkirk; and granddaughters, Kaitlyn Samson, Kallie Watts, Kara Watts, Isabella Hobkirk, and Lyla Hobkirk; great-granddaughters, Payton and Haley Samson; and special sister-in-law, Gwen Samson. Pallbearers are D.J. Guitreau, Brandon Samson, Dustin Guitreau, Logan Samson, Keaton Hobkirk, and Jackson Samson. Honorary Pallbearers are Khris Hobkirk, Russel Butler and Ray Guitreau. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. Visitation will resume at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd., Greenwell Springs, LA, on Thursday, June 24, 2021, from 9:30AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM.
