It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, William “Bill” Jay Kinberger Jr. He passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, September 5, 2025. He leaves behind three children who were the center of his heart, Adam (Janise) Black of Midland, TX. Kyle (Sara) Kinberger of Prairieville, Alexis Rivera of Baton Rouge, and their mother, Susan Kinberger with whom he shared a long-lasting friendship and deep respect. His greatest joy was being “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren: Lily, Gatlin, Christian, Charlee, and Vera, each of whom he adored beyond measure. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jay Kinberger and Elnora Wall Kinberger. Born in New Orleans on May 3, 1950, he carried a lifelong love for the city he called home while growing up. He cherished the city’s culture, food and spirit. His New Orleans roots ran deep and he loved sharing its unique charm with everyone he met. Mardi Gras was his favorite time of year, a season that reflects his vibrant spirit and love for bringing people together. He passed down that love of Mardi Gras to his family, creating memories and traditions that will be carried on by his children and grandchildren for generations to come. Bill was a graduate of Holy Cross High School in New Orleans and received his degree from the University of New Orleans. He was also a proud member of the US Air Force Reserves. Service remained central to his life, in his later years. He worked as a volunteer at the VA in New Orleans, where he gave his time, compassion, and friendship to fellow veterans. Bill’s love for LSU athletics was well known among family and friends. He cheered passionately for all Tiger sports: football, gymnastics, women’s basketball, and softball. Yet nothing brought him more joy than LSU baseball, which he followed with unwavering devotion. A lifelong baseball fan, the only thing that could rival Bill’s love for LSU was supporting his children and grandchildren in all their pursuits. Whether it was completing a nursing degree, career advancements, school achievements, on the baseball or softball field, swim meets, diving competitions, soccer games, or choir and stage performances, he never missed an opportunity to be there for them. Sitting in his favorite seat along the fence or in the stands, he cheered them on with the same pride and enthusiasm he had for the Tigers. His seat will now remain empty as will his family’s hearts, as there is no one that could ever fill that space quite like Paw Paw. Bill will be laid to rest in his beloved hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life that will be held in Baton Rouge and will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
