

"Bill was a resident of Baton Rouge, born in McCamey, TX, September 10, 1932 and passed away peacefully at his home, March 1, 2017, with his family by his side. He attended Fortier High School in New Orleans, then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his military career he enrolled in Louisiana State University where he was affiliated with Sigma Chi Fraternity. For many years Bill coached American Legion baseball and BREC football, The Perkin's Park Eagles. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and was passionate about L.S.U. football and baseball. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he sang in The Chancel Choir and The Young At Hearts Choir and served on the Board of Deacons. Bill was a retired business owner of Alarm Device Company, Inc. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Catherine Huckabay VanDuzee; son, William Hill "Van" VanDuzee, Jr.; daughter, Katherine VanDuzee Castle, and husband, Ralph Ray Castle; grandchildren, Matthew William Bailey, Jr., William Hill VanDuzee, III, and Ella Robin VanDuzee; brother, Ralph Kniss VanDuzee and his wife, Susan Davis VanDuzee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, Everett Norwood VanDuzee and Ada Hill VanDuzee and a brother, Everett Norwood VanDuzee, Jr. Visiting at First Baptist Church, 529 Convention Street, Monday, March 6, 2017, from 11:00 am until services at 1:00 pm conducted by Rev. Dr. Harry Hunter Huckabay, Jr. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Matthew William Bailey, Jr., Ralph Ray Castle, Harry Hunter Huckabay, III, Preston Briton Crosby Huckabay, Edmond Carl Seymour, Anthony Leslie VanDuzee, Ralph Kniss VanDuzee, Jr., William Hill VanDuzee, III and Ella Robin VanDuzee. Honorary pallbearers will be Judge William H. Brown, Rev. Jerry Wayne Ratcliff, Jack Stokeld, Woody Thames, Carlton Varnado, Dr. Williams D. Wall, IV, John W. Wheeler, and Robert E. Weimer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Home, 529 Convention Street, Baton Rouge, 70802 or The Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Seigen Lane, Baton Rouge, 70810.
