Austin Leon Potts, beloved husband, father, brother, Papa, uncle and best friend, was taken home to heaven on February 15, 2016 at the age of 87. Leon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bobbie of Baytown, Texas, his daughter, Debbie Moore and her husband Joe, of Baytown, Texas; and his son, Randy Potts and his wife Kathy, of Santa Fe, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Eve Conley of Houston, Texas, grandchildren, Mark Potts, David Moore and wife Abbey, Michael Moore and wife, Sara, and April Potts. He lovingly adored his 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Janie Potts as well as two brothers and two sisters.
Leon was born on May 1, 1928 in Paducah, Texas. He graduated from Pennington High School and worked for many years as an automotive mechanic. He retired after 25 years as supervisor over the automotive department at Lubrizol Corporation.
Leon was a great family man, loving father, and devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He was deeply involved as a member at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, serving as chairman of the Transportation Committee for many years. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, yard work and time with family. Leon constantly had a story to tell and a warm hug to give. He had an unparalleled sense of finding a solution to any mechanical problem. His mechanical intuition was matched only by his diligence and hard work. He was a doer, not an observer. He was a co-worker, not a boss. He had the unique ability to make working alongside him a thing to be treasured.
A visitation is scheduled for 10 am on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, 3116 N. Alexander Drive, Baytown, Texas, followed immediately by the funeral at 11 am.
