On Friday, April 21, 2017, Beulah Lenox joined the church triumphant to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Quitman, TX to John and Letha Derr, Beulah always felt close to God and accepted Christ at an early age. She felt called to be the wife of a minister throughout her childhood and adulthood. Beulah loved life and her gracious, loving manner always brought out the best in others. She was an encourager and maintained a cheerful heart and a forgiving spirit. She saw the goodness in everyone she met and inspired them through her own faith in God and the kind of life she led.
Beulah was a distinguished alumnus of Lon Morris College and a graduate of Southwestern University where she was a soloist in the college choir. Upon graduating from college, she married Rev. Asbury Lenox and they lived in numerous towns and cities throughout Texas, including Baytown, and Houston, where her husband was the senior pastor of Memorial Drive U.M.C. and later Moody Memorial U.M.C. in Galveston. After Dr. Lenox's official retirement in 1988, he was asked to be the Executive Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Houston where he and Beulah worshipped for many years.
Beulah was a faithful member of the Blue Bird Circle and did volunteer work for many years at the Houston Methodist Hospital and Texas Children's Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Beulah and her husband had two children, Hannah Lenox, and George Lenox, both of whom live in Baytown. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Johnnie Sada of Longview, Tommie Avera of Athens, and Karen and David Cobble of Silsbee; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. John W. and Janet Derr of Muscogee, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends in the parlor of Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church, 2714 Ferry Rd., Baytown, TX 77520, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service of Thanksgiving to follow at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. John Newsome, Rev. Karen Tyler, and Rev. John W. Derr officiating. Burial will follow at Hill of Rest Cemetery.
