

Carl Cavin Currie, Sr (""Bubba"") was born March 30, 1927 and passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents Fairy Cavin & Marvin A. Currie, brother Marvin A. Currie Jr. (""Buddie""), and brother-in-law Victor C. Pruitt.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years Amy (Shepherd) Currie, daughter Lou Ellen (Larry) Wheeler, sons Carl (Nancy) Currie Jr. and Brent Currie; grandsons Kevin (Christine) Wheeler, Daniel Wheeler, Robert Currie, Thomas (Jamie) Currie, Jody (Rebecca) Hughes and great-grandchildren Bobby Currie and Zora Hughes, sister Mary Lou Pruitt and her children Becky Pruitt and Chris (Terry) Pruitt, sister in-law Martha Currie and her children Marvin (Jeani) Currie III and Ruth (Robert) Heinemeyer, along with many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He worked for Exxon for 36 years, 3 months and 14 days (he was fond of pointing out) and enjoyed retirement for almost 36 years. He worked most of his career at the Baytown Refinery, but accepted assignments in Houston and Alaska during construction of the Alaskan pipeline project. He also dabbled as a real estate agent for several years.
He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and Lee College and he & Amy are long-time supporters of the college. He also attended University of Houston and South Texas College of Law.
He assisted in coaching baseball with Little League Rams & Pirates teams that his sons played on. He was always an active, involved Dad/Grandad, and family was his main hobby.
He and Amy are longtime members of Trinity Episcopal Church and he served on the Vestry and as Junior Warden at both All Saints Episcopal Mission and Trinity Episcopal Church. He also served on the Boards of Directors of St. James House, the local chapter of American Diabetes Association, and for many years the Baytown Historical Society. He and Amy enjoyed working with the St. James Auxiliary, and co-hosted with Gloria & Horton Bridges, Tassie & Paul Edwards, and others, many Happy Hours on Friday afternoons for residents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, August 18, followed by a reception/visitation at Trinity Episcopal Church, 5010 N Main St, Baytown, TX 77521.
