Carlyle David Christopher Lewis, born on October 11, 1957, passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 68. Known affectionately as Carl, he was a compassionate, hard-working, and kind-hearted individual whose life was a testament to love and dedication.
Carl was born in Point Fortin, Trinidad, West Indies, and began his education at Egypt Village Primary School. He graduated from Saint Croix Central High School in 1976. His career was marked by service and entrepreneurship. As a United States Veteran, Carl served in the US Navy for eight years. He later worked in insurance sales and as an over-the-road driver before becoming the owner of TrinLu Logistics Trucking Company.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Mejia Lewis, and preceded in death by his parents, Ursula and Eversley John, and his nephew, Joshua Rideau. Carl's legacy continues through his loving children: Ebonie Lewis, Carlyle Lewis Jr., Channing and Alkeyvia Lewis, Kevin Lewis, Carlylian Lewis and Shelby Campbell , Channise Lewis, Jessica and Carl White, and Juan G. Mejia. He was also a cherished brother to Jemma Lewis Upshaw and Robert Upshaw, Angela Lewis Payne and Lincoln Payne, Patrick Lewis, and Ursula Lewis. Carl was adored by a host of nieces and nephews and blessed with grandchildren: Chance, Carly, Heziyah, Kali, Indiyah, Carleigh, Louis, Cairo, Amari, Carson, and Carlylian II.
Carl's personal interests included fishing, traveling, cooking, dancing, and restoring old vehicles. He was a family chef and handyman, always ready to help others. Known for never meeting a stranger, Carl was outgoing and deeply involved in his community. He was a self-appointed HOA and a "Mr. Fix It" for anyone who asked, and sometimes even if they didn't.
His sister, Ursula, shares a heartfelt tribute: "My dearest brother, you taught me that courage isn't the absence of a storm, but the strength to walk through it with your head held high. Thank you for leading the way and showing me how to be brave. You are woven into my heart forever. XOXO Ursula."
The family is deeply grateful to the physicians, nurses, and staff at the VA hospital and Hospice care team for their compassion, respect, and commitment, which provided comfort and dignity throughout Carl's journey. Special thanks to his wife, Maria, for her tireless devotion, strength, and constant care. The family also extends gratitude to all the friends and family who provided support during this time of loss.
A heartfelt farewell to Carl, a man whose life was rooted in love—especially for his family. His impact will forever live on in our hearts.
