Charles Andrew Rydbom

26 novembre 194318 juillet 2020

Charles Andrew Rydbom, 76, of Baytown, Texas, entered the gates of heaven on July 18, 2020. Charles was born in Pittsburgh - Harrison Township, Allegheny County, PA on November 26, 1943 to Richard Clair Rydbom and Loretta Frances Klinger. Friends and loved ones know Charles as Dad, Skipp, Skipper, Chuck, and Flounder King. His family moved around a lot when he was young – Brady Lake Ohio, Louisville Kentucky, San Antonio TX, Fallbrook CA, Hokkaido Japan, Parks Air Force Base California, Port Isabel TX. He joined the US Navy when he was 17 years old and completed 6 years of military duty as a Hospital Striker and a Seaman aboard the USS Eversole. He was commended for Superior performance as a Sailor and Hospital Corpsman Striker – he administered mouth to mouth resuscitation to another Seattle serviceman in distress from a heart seizure and is probably responsible for saving that man’s life. He retired from the Exxon Refinery in Baytown, where he worked as a Process Chief Operator for 26 yrs. He was married to Carolyn Rydbom for 30 years and had 2 children, Cari Rydbom and Cathi Rydbom Whaley. People seem to remember him as: full of life, fun to be around, a great father and uncle, fisherman, their “favorite”, proud, loved, handsome, awesome Chef, the best, hero, a unique and special person, being adored, and a good neighbor. So, if you knew him, he was probably taking you places, giving you advice, feeding you or giving you fresh flounder or vegetables, dancing or playing dominos and cards. He was also known as being the clown of the family – always making people laugh and having a good time. Survived by daughters Cari Rydbom and Cathi Rydbom Whaley and husband David, granddaughters Mikayla Kraemer and Marielena Smith-Rydbom, grandson Ben Whaley, sisters Ellen Rankin, Audrey Schauer, Roma Henderson and Georgia Waltman, brother David Koesel. Preceded in death by brothers Richard, Robert, Calvin, and Larry Rydbom, sisters Rea Bowen, Adora Stout, and Loretta Smith. Arrangements being handled by Earthman Funeral Home: 3919 Garth Rd, Baytown, TX 77521. Phone #281-422-8181. There will not be a service at this time due to COVID. Tell me some lies…. What’s the latest? It’s for medicinal purposes….

My sincere sympathy for the passing of Chuck. I worked with him at the Baytown Refinery in the Utilities area. I always enjoyed his funny stories as he always made me laugh. He was certainly a good man and will surely be missed by all who knew him.

He was always nice to me when I came over to see Cathi. He would do just about anything for us. He also came to my wedding and I can still remember him tell me how pretty I was. It really meant a lot to me! He will be missed.

Uncle Skipp really was the best. I loved visiting him when I was a little girl and I look back fondly on those memories now. He taught me how to play spades, encouraged my love of reading, took me to countless tourist destinations, and fed me the best gumbo I’ve ever had in my life (his of course)! Thank you for all the memories Uncle Skipp. My heart breaks for Cari, Cathy and your families. May you find peace and comfort during this time.
Much love from your Ohio cousin Nichole
