Charles Leroy (Chuck) Thompson was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 6, 1936. He died on October 19, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Phoenix and attended Phoenix Union High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-1956. He graduated from Pearce College in 1966.
Chuck worked in aerospace industries from 1962-1978 in California. He began his career in new homes sales in Texas in 1978 and continued in this industry until he retired from Kimball Hill Homes in 2005.
During his years in California and Arizona, Chuck was an amateur sports car racer, a bass fishing enthusiast and a top bowler.
Chuck and his wife Carol cruised extensively, especially the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii. Chuck was an active member of St. Paul’s UMC in Baytown until it closed. Then he and Carol join Crosby UMC in 2009.
Since retiring, Chuck has been an active member of Crosby Lions Club and volunteered for the Crosby Community Center, the Crosby-Huffman Chamber of Commerce and the Crosby Library.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen and Dwight Thompson, his brother Dwight Melvin (Skip) Thompson, his brother-in-law, Bob Creasy, his sister-in-law, Marian Nadler, and his mother-in-law Helen Hanggee. He is survived by his wife, Carol Thompson and his children: Mary Beth and husband Gerald Castilleja and grandson Connor of San Antonio and Christopher and Stephanie Thompson and grandsons Isaac and Ethan of Kingwood; Lee Thompson Hedgen and Matt Thompson Hedgen of California; and his stepchildren, Matt Hanggee and wife Katherin Cope of Cedar Park, Kathy Abernathy of Temple, Tim Hanggee of Crosby and James Hanggee of Austin; and his sister-in-law, Pat Roddy of Magnolia. He also leave behind his dog, CC.
The family will be present at Crosby UMC from 10:00am to 11:00am on Friday, October 23, 2020 to receive friends. A private funeral services will be held at Crosby UMC at 11:00 am Friday, October 23, 2020 with Rev. Jamie Lea presiding. Services will be livestreamed on the Crosby UMC Facebook page for those unable to attend. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery 8624 Garth Rd. Baytown, Texas 77521.
Pallbearers will be Tom Eidson, Bill Henry, Bobby Odom, Bert Baker, Robert Hernandez, Randy Hyde. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Boykin and Rick Walker.
