

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Regina Young; his wife of 69 years Agnes Young; siblings, Al Young and Estella Kerr and son, Jimmy Lee Young.
Charles was born in Houston, TX, on March 26, 1914, the first child of Charles and Regina Broussard Young. They moved to Goose Creek when he was a young boy. Charles graduated from Cedar bayou High School in 1932, valedictorian of his graduating class. He went to work in the oil field at Esperson Dome in August of 1933 for General Crude Oil Company.
Charles met Agnes while participating in a Christmas play in December of 1935, at Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God (then located at the corner of East Jack and North Second streets). Charles was Joseph and Agnes was an angel.
They married on May 24, 1936, in the first formal wedding ceremony to be held at Trinity Tabernacle. Rev. J.O. Savell performed the ceremony. Five children were born to this union: Clinton James, Rose Marie, Shirley Jean, Jimmy Lee and Charles David.
In September of 1942, Charles went to work for Humble Oil and Refining Company as an electrician. He worked under three different company names – Humble, Enjay Chemical, and Exxon Chemical, retiring from Exxon Chemical in January of 1977.
In April of 1977, after only four months of retirement, he went to work for R.W. Johnson Construction Company. In 1978, he went back to work for Exxon Chemical as an electrical consultant during the construction of the Baytown Olefins Plant. After 3 ½ years, he retired for the second time.
He is survived by his children, Clinton Young, Marie Byrd, Shirley Holzaepfel and husband, Stan and David Young and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Rose Anne Byrd, Deana Vespa and husband Bob, James Dean Byrd, Jeff Holzaepfel and wife, Jenny, Staci Garner and husband Ron, Destiny Krosschell and husband Chris and Brandon Young and wife, Laura; ten great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Acting as pallbearers will be Brandon young, Jeff Holzaepfel, Ron Garner, Bob Vespa Stan Holzaepfel and Chuck Tortorich.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Swan Manor and Faith Community Hospice along with their staffs for loving care and to Steve Takach for all of his care and wisdom over the years.
