Cornelia Maxine Sexton died peacefully in Baytown, Texas with family by her side on May 29, 2011. She was born March 12, 1928 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to parents Cornelia Ellen Curl and Lester Leroy (Roy) Browning.
In 1945 after visiting an aunt in Louisiana she headed home to Arkansas via a Greyhound bus where she met a handsome, young Army sergeant named James McRae Sexton. The courtship began that day and the two were married later that year. To this union were born three children.
Jim’s career as a geophysicist took them across the United States but Maxine found time to become a registered nurse. She worked as a surgical and ICU nurse at hospitals in Houston, Texas and Midland, Texas. Later in life she became the school nurse at Bleyl Junior High School in Houston, Texas.
After Jim’s death in 1981 and retiring a few years later Maxine began her world travels to China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain. She was an avid reader and loved to play golf and bridge. She was a member of the Methodist church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her three children and their families: Janet Fulk and husband Mark of Austin, Texas, Ronald Sexton and wife Sharon of Mont Belvieu, Texas and Dixie Sexton of The Woodlands, Texas. Grandchildren include Ceasar Torres and wife, Tristan, Paul Torres, Jamie Sexton, Angela Sexton, and Austin Willcoxon. Great grandchildren are Daniel Torres, Gabrielle Torres and Evan Torres. She is survived by two brothers, Lester Browning and wife Kathy, William Henry and wife LaRue all of Arkansas and one sister in law, Louise Sexton of Longview, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on June 1, 2011 in The Woodlands, Texas and a graveside service at a later date in Stephens, Arkansas.
