Darrell Nicholas Lamb was born in Baytown, Texas on October 9, 1962. He grew up in Highlands, Texas, graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School and The University of Houston. In 1986 he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Dana Angel Lamb. They had two children, Lauren Lamb Johnson and Garrett Nicholas Lamb who were the center of his world and the greatest joys of his life. Lauren and her husband, Ryan Johnson blessed him with two grandsons, Coy Allen Johnson and Neal Garrett Johnson. His two grandsons lit up his world and they loved their “Paw Paw” and he loved them dearly.
Darrell will be known as many wonderful things by many… a husband, father and grandfather who lived to make his family happy and want for nothing; a son, brother and friend who was one call or text away whenever you needed him; the man who made sure that children who couldn’t afford to play sports or have Christmas presents got what they wanted; the guy who would chase the wild barn cat around so he could take it inside during a freeze; the man who could not only survive an Alaskan hunting trip gone bad, but take care of fellow hunters so they all survived; and the son-in-law who would build an entire house on his property so he could take care of the woman who was a mother to him in his heart. Darrell lived to care for and love others.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Darrell spent many special moments with family and friends doing what he loved. He would often schedule week-long trips, but never quite made it more than a few days before Dana would get a call, “I miss y’all, I’m coming home.” Their children were raised on the Frio every summer in June and the tradition continued with his grandsons. He loved his dogs Ruger and Lucy, old cars, sports, his ‘Grumpy Lumpy Barn’ and the newest ‘gadget’.
Darrell was diagnosed with cancer in February and throughout his treatment, he never once complained. He never once asked, “why me”, and he never missed a day of radiation or chemo treatment. When he initially received the diagnosis he responded, “I will beat this.” In his own daughter’s words, “My dad always did what he said he’d do” and sure enough, Darrell beat cancer. He had two treatments remaining and was set to ring the bell this week when a heart attack provided Heaven with an incredible angel.
Darrell was welcomed into Heaven by his mother Silvia Listi, his step-mother, Pat Lamb, his brother, Gary Lamb, and his father-in-law, Frank Angel. He is also survived by his father, Don Lamb, brother and sister-in-law Donnie and Kim Lamb, brother and sister-in-law Herbert and Crystal Crocker, brother and sister-in-law Ronnie and Jodie Lamb, sister-in-law Cindy Lamb, mother-in-law, Cinie Angel, brother-in-law, Brad Angel, and numerous other family members and friends who were very special to Darrell.
Darrell’s family would like to thank the amazing providers at the Methodist Hospital Cancer Center who cared for Darrell during his treatments.
The celebration of Darrell’s life and legacy will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Houston Raceway Park, 2525 FM 565, Baytown, Texas. Visitation will be from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. with the Celebration of Life following from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of plants or flowers, the family would be honored for any donations to be directed to “Lumpy’s Love”, the Darrell Lamb Foundation. Lumpy’s Love will continue Darrell’s generosity by providing for children’s needs.
