

Donald E. Turpin, Sr., 92 of Crosby, Texas, passed away August 18, 2024. He was born in Huntington County, Indiana on May 21, 1932 to Howard and Edna Turpin. He was married to Lela Turpin for 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Helen L. Turpin, Mary L. Allen, Ruth A. Turpin and son Todd R. Turpin, step-son David Lengacher.
He is survived by his wife Lela of Texas, children: Donald “Gene” E. Turpin, Jr. (Vickie), Daniel E. Turpin (Gloria), Teri S. Egly, Denise A. Turpin (Donald Finkelstein), Gary L. Turpin (Dawn), step-son Dirk Lengacher and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Don had a career in construction. He worked 50 plus years in the construction field, ranging from laborer to superintendent. After he retired and moved to Florida he was very involved with several voluntary organizations like Neighborhood Watch, The Homeless Coalition and Habitat for Humanity.
In his younger years, he loved music and played base guitar in a country band. He also loved to read and even wrote a 247 page book titled “Life is Good”. He enjoyed camping and traveling. Don’s favorite hobby was model steam train engines. He constructed several elaborate train layouts and built model display engines for each of his children.
