Doris Ovaline Townsend was born July 19th, 1945, in Monticello, Kentucky and left us on August 1st, 2023. Doris had just celebrated her 78th birthday surrounded by her family and friends with a family cookout, game night, and fun trip to a casino.
Not many knew her by her God given name but as Mom, Momma, Memaw or Momma Doris. Doris was a woman of strength and courage. She lost her mother and helped take care of her family at a young age. She married Edward Townsend Jr, best known as “Tex”, when she was 18 years old. Tex was 20 years older than her, and they raised 6 mischievous kids with all three boys going off to serve in the Marine Corps like their father. Doris was so strong willed that at the age of 35 years old, she went back to school to become a nurse and she was a nurse until she retired at the age of 63 years old, successfully fulfilling her lifelong dream. After she retired, she went back to her old roots of running hot shots like she did when the kids were young.
She loved her family more than anything in life. All she ever wanted was to be surrounded by her kids. She enjoyed bingo, family game nights, bowling and road trips. She’d often take road trips to visit her brother Bob and her sister Margaret in Indiana, thoroughly enjoying their company and time together. From family camping, casinos, Disneyland, cruises, and all the places her kids would take her, she was always ready to go and was truly the glue that brought the family together. She loved flowers, with roses being her favorite. And if you knew her, you know her favorite three words: Love You More.
Doris is survived by her children, Farris Wayne Townsend, Angel Dawn Townsend-Wheeless, Eddie Townsend and Tina Keene, Shelia and Brooks Straub, Ginny and John Whitworth, her brother, Bob and Peggy Jones, her grandkids, William “Billy” Townsend Jr., Echo Wheeless and Julio Conpean, Skye Wheeless, Penny and Chris Valadez, John Jr. and Maegan Whitworth, Edward “Dewey” IV and Emma Townsend, Nicole Holston, Hailey Townsend, Huntyr Martinez, Christopher Townsend, her great grandkids, LeeAnn Townsend, Matthew Townsend, Dezstyni Conpean, Izabelle Conpean, Jax Valadez, Waelon Holston, Nyla Townsend, Olivia Valadez, Julio Conpean Jr., Augustus Paxton, Beretta “Birdie” Paxton, Ally Jean Whitworth, her great-great grandkids, Everleigh Townsend and Austin Blain Callaway Jr.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edward D. Townsend Jr., her mother and father, Henry Spencer and Martha Ann Jones, her sister Margaret, her brother, Edward Fuquay and her son, William “Bill” Townsend.
