Native Baytonian E. H. Stoerner, Jr., 89, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, of natural causes. Affectionately known by several nicknames, like ""Junior"" and ""Dutch,"" his most treasured were those used by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him ""PamPaw"" and ""Gimpy.""
Living his whole life in Baytown, Junior was born on October 11, 1925, to E. H. Stoerner, Sr. and Effie Lyons Stoerner. He was a proud 1943 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and a veteran of World War II, enlisting voluntarily in October 1943 in the U. S. Army. He served in Italy in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1946, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his discharge, Dutch began his employment with Humble Oil & Refining, retiring from Exxon in 1985 with 37 years of service.
Junior had a passion for sports and loved watching in person or on television. With an insane ability to recall sports facts, he could spend hours re-living 1940 – 1970s REL Gander games with great specificity that left people impressed. He especially loved traveling to football playoff games at the Astrodome with his sons, grandsons and other family members, with even a few trips made to Austin, TX. He was a great supporter of his children and grandchildren in their activities. He volunteered many hours for Central Little League when his sons were players. He also volunteered with the Royal Ambassadors at Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member.
With his passing, the family would like to acknowledge the 57 years spent in Wimberley, TX each summer at the 7-A Ranch Resort. What began in 1959 with a family of 6 had flourished to four generations, numbering close to 50 family members, spending time together annually each July 4th on the Blanco River. It is here that many PamPaw-isms were shared from generation to generation, Saturday night baths in the pool were modeled and the art of playing Thirty-One was learned.
Predeceased by his oldest daughter, Cheryl Tomlinson, in 2014, he leaves to survive him his wife of nearly 66 years, Jean Stoerner; sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie and Paula Stoerner and Forrest, Sr. and Robin Stoerner and daughter, Connie Thibodeaux, as well as 10 grandchildren and spouses, Jodie and Jason Meredith, Christopher and Nikki Tomlinson, Forrest, Jr. and Sara Stoerner, Hank and Ginger Stoerner, Jason and Tiffany Stoerner, Clint Stoerner, Brian and Jamie Thibodeaux, Kalyn and CJ Perry, Laura and Cale Shrock and Brianne Stoerner. Additionally, he is survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Troy, Austin, Jaden, Taylor, Jacie, Alyssa, Tyson, Waylon, Maddie, Maycie, Hannah, Jake, Jaxon and Bryson and sister, Patsy Sharp.
His family will start receiving friends Wednesday, July 1, 2015, in the Memorial Baptist Church chapel, 600 W. Sterling St., Baytown, TX 77520, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Alan Beck officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Memorial donations in his name may be made to the charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
Our hearts are broken, but we know that you are whole once again. We will love and miss you forever and that's ""No lie!""
