Edres “Edie” Whitehead Phipps was united with our Heavenly Father on March 25, 2021 at the age of 91. Edie was born to Arch Whatley and Beluah Morris Whatley on February 8, 1930 in Talco, Titus County, Texas. Edie graduated from Talco High School in May of 1947, and moved to Houston, Texas. She entered the workforce and was employed at United Gas of Houston before her first Marriage. She was married to Qunitin Whitehead of Nacogdoches, Texas in 1949 and had two sons Joel and Gene. They were married eight years when her husband passed away in 1957. In 1961 she married again to William Phipps. They moved to Anderson County, Texas in 1971. They were both employed with an oilfield construction business. After her husband’s death in 1990 she formed her own corporation, which was known as White’s Energy Inc. Edie owned and operated the business until she retired in 2003.
Edie was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, one sister (Nina), two brothers (AC and Kenneth), and her youngest son Gene Whitehead, nephews Ernest and Richard Bailey. She is survived by her son Joel Whitehead and wife Anita of Montalba. Two granddaughters Jackie Williams and her husband Mike of Ben Wheeler, and Brandi McEnturff and her husband Dewayne of Palestine. She is also survived by one very special great grandson Brandon Batton of Montalba, Texas (The Apple of her Eye). Darlene Bailey and family of Garland, Texas, niece Diane Rogers and family of Loomis, California, Carolyn Bailey and family of Highlands, Texas. Step grandchildren Sonya Crawford and husband John, grandson Dylan of Tennessee Colony, Texas, James Currie and sons Justin and Ryan of Dallas. She was also surrounded by numerous friends.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown, Texas with Brother Jerry Horine officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund, 7220 FM 860 Montalba, Texas 75853.
