Edwin Wesley Gregersen, Sr. (88) of Baytown, Texas passed from this life on Friday evening, January 1, 2021. Over the past several years, his children lovingly cared for him in the comfort of his home and he died peacefully in the arms of his son.
Ed was born on July 11, 1932 in Highlands, Texas to Birdie May and John Gregersen. He was raised with his older brothers Jacob Hayword Henry and Freddie Robert.
In 1952, he met the “feisty” love of his life, Barbara Jean Downing, at Hinky and Pillot. They were inseparable for over 58 years from their marriage on August 31, 1952 until Jean’s death on December 11, 2010.
He worked and retired as a route salesman for Dentler Maid Chips and Tom’s Snacks.
If asked, Ed would tell you that his biggest accomplishment (after marrying his beloved wife) was being a Dad to his children. He would share that their happiness was his happiness and wherever they were was his home.
He was an exceedingly humble, kind, loving, and hard-working man who provided and cared for his family the best he could. He enjoyed spending his days gardening, reading the newspaper, pouring over his Bible and commentaries, talking with people about life and the importance of our faith in Christ.
He leaves behind a strong legacy of appreciating the simple things in life, being grateful for all God has given you, treating people with kindness, and giving all you have for the love of your family.
This gentle, caring, and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed. We are grateful to have known him, thankful to have lived our lives with him, and blessed to call him Dad and Poppa.
Our prayer is that our lives may reflect the same love that he poured out on all of us and his long-standing faith gives us the assurance that we will all be reunited once again in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jacob, and his wife, Barbara Jean.
He is survived by his children: Donna Lynne Davis, Edwin Wesley Gregersen, Jr., Carol Jean (Keith) Shaver, and Jackie Anne (Keith) Brown, grandchildren: Mark Dana (Rachel) Davis, Jr., Barbara Jean (Jeremy) Lawrence, John Wesley (Jamie) Davis, Edwin Wesley Gregersen, III (Trey), Zacharie Francis Gregersen, Dustin Lee (Brooke) Dockery, Kara Lynne (Garrett) Weber-Gale, Caleb McKenley Shaver, Ashlyn Noel Brown, and Reece Alan Brown, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Ed’s caregiver Eleanor Crockrom and his life-long, protective neighbors who helped us ensure his safety and well-being. In addition, we are grateful for the help and guidance provided by Traditions Health Hospice Care.
He is under the care of Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas. A graveside service for family will be held on Thursday, January 7th at 2pm at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Baytown, TX.
