Born in 1932, Frances worked as a Dispatcher for the Baytown Fire Department where she later retired after several years of service. She made many fond memories while employed there, including meeting and later marrying her husband of thirty-four years, Jerry Wiess, a fellow firefighter with the department.
After moving to Austin in 2009 to live with her granddaughter, Lynsie, she came to be known simply as everyone’s “Grandma.” There, she was able to spend time with her family, share in the lives of new friends, and was able to watch her great grandson grow up. She enjoyed good home cooking, sharing recipes, reminiscing about the “old days,” caring for her animals, and delighting everyone with her smile, humor, and witty personality.
“Grandma” will be remembered for her kind heart, love of animals, and generosity towards her friends and family. She always enjoyed the company of others, partaking in long conversations over coffee and sweets, while being surrounded by her many loved ones. Her strength and determination inspired everyone around her, and that strength will live on through the countless people who were fortunate enough to get to know her.
