Frank (Poogie) Miller, Jr.

Captain Frank (Poogie) Miller, Jr., of Baytown, departed his earthly existence on March 19, 2007, at the age of 83 years young. Frank Jr. was born on October 17, 1923 in Houston, to parents, Frank Miller, Sr. and Frankie Lee Kent. Mr. Miller was a long-time resident of Anahuac where he owned and operated Miller Marine Service for over forty years in Oak Island. As a commercial crew and tug boat owner, he was most at home on the bays and waterways of our Gulf Coast, navigating waters many men could not locate. He enjoyed being on the water not only for work, but as a fisherman; he also was an avid NASCAR fan long before NASCAR became a vogue hobby, making 18 trips to the Indianapolis 500 as an A.J. Foyt fan. Mr. Miller served in the Army Air Corps during WW II as an Aviation Crew Chief, and met the love of his life Edna, at a USO dance at Ellington Field. He peacefully joined his loving wife of 54 years, Edna Holmes Miller; his first born son, Frank Miller III, and his youngest son, Bryan Ferris Miller, who preceded him in death.

Captain Frank is survived by his daughter Theresa Miller; daughter Elizabeth Butler and husband Jack; daughter Maria Horn and husband Billy; and son John A. Miller and wife Connie. Mr. Miller is survived by ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister Betty Miller Guthrie and husband Ted.

Honorary Pallbearers include Edgar Lobit, Link Nolte, A.J. Harmon, Harold McDaniel, Ray Thornton and Frances Roy.

Rosary & visitation will be at Navarre Funeral Chapel in Baytown, Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Baytown on Thursday March 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow immediately at Anahuac Cemetery in Anahuac.

Special thanks are extended to the staff of Faith Community Hospice who tirelessly strove to make his last days comfortable. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Navarre Funeral Chapel in Baytown.
