Genoveva Rodriguez, 85, entered eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in La Porte, Texas. She left this life as she lived it, surrounded by her family, wrapped in love, and with her faith in God as her guide.
Born to Felix and Dionicia Mendez on January 3, 1940, Genoveva was the only daughter among her brothers, making her presence special from birth. It was a role that made her both a treasured sister and a lifelong nurturer. She attended Catholic school in Harlingen, Texas, where she was taught by nuns and, for a time, felt called to become a nun herself. However, God had other plans, she married the love of her life Eugenio Rodriguez, where they shared 67 beautiful years walking hand in hand. Together they raised their six children and created a family rooted in love, laughter, and faith.
Genoveva was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Esteban Mendez, Pedro Mendez, Johnny Mendez and Simon Mendez; her grandson, Eric Raymundo; and her great-granddaughter, Aria Magdalena Arrona. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Eugenio; her six children - Oscar (Nicole) Rodriguez, Teresa Jenkins, Jan (Roberto) Arrona, Lisa (Hector) Raymundo, Dee Quinn (John Barlow), and Carmen Rodriguez; her grandchildren -Ereka (Michael), Beau (Brooke), Eugene (Desiree), Cassandra (Adrien), Robert Jr. (Faby), Salvador (Deborah), Tony, Evie, Veronica (Aaron), Eric, and Joey (Jamie); her great-grandchildren - Marcus, Mackenzie, Abbigayle, Jacob, Olivia, Jordanne, Johnathan, Juliette, Julien, Skyla, Roberto III, Elijah, Aria, Gaia, Everly, Bryce, Theo, Riley, Seattle, Magnolia, and Darwin. In total, she was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four bonus great-grandchildren, and her brother Tony Mendez - each a living testament to her tenderness and legacy.
Genoveva lived a life guided by devotion. A faithful Catholic, she worshipped and volunteered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Baytown, Texas, and served with the Sacred Heart organization, where she once held the role of President. She was a proud member of the Guadalupanas and also attended regular prayer group meetings. Genoveva followed a sacred order: God first, husband second, children third - all others within her embrace.
Though her hands found joy in gardening, embroidery, crocheting, puzzles and coloring, her heart’s greatest work was motherhood - not solely to her own children, but to all in need of comfort, guidance, or love. She poured her soul into raising her family and was a woman who gave without hesitation and loved without condition.
Those blessed to have shared her journey will remember a woman of unwavering belief, laughter that could fill a room, and strength in difficult times. They will remember her prayers whispered not just for herself, but for those she loved. Those who never met her will feel her in the stories told, the love shared, and the ripple outward through the family she shaped.
Genoveva’s story has not ended, but is carried forward into the lives of all who adored her.
