

George was born on July 6, 1932, to parents George Burnett and Myrtle Jones Burnett at Lillie-Duke Hospital in Goose Creek, TX. He attended Anson Jones Elementery, Horace Mann Jr High School, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, and attended the University of Houston. He served 4 years in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, primarily stationed in Alaska. He retired from American Oil Company (AMOCO) in Texas City, Texas, with over 40 years of service. George loved God, family, and country. During his early years he raced horses for the renowned King Ranch, one of the largest ranches in the world located in south Texas. He loved the outdoors, especially the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico, where he spent many adventures hunting, camping, and enjoying nature with family and friends, and after a savory steak dinner at camp, he enjoyed a blazing campfire with his favorite drink in hand while gazing at the stars. His main hobby was his love of firearms, shooting and reloading. He was a Life and Endowment member of the NRA and a life member of the TSRA. He was also one of the original founding members of the Whittington Center, an NRA affiliated facility in Raton, NM. This elite facility supports sport shooting, hunting, and all wildlife activities. He remained in Baytown, TX. and raised his family there in Pelly, where he was also a member of St. John’s Methodist Church.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Burnett Nance, and her husband Frank Nance, his wife of 50 years, Patricia Burnett, and son-in-law Ron Darsee.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cathy Burnett, who was always by his side, and their beloved dog Princess. His children: Becky Darsee, George M. Burnett III and wife Pamela, Jimmy Burnett, and Suzy Blystone and husband Rick. Grandchildren Julie Stevenson, Rhonda Steele, Brandon Darsee, Amber Kimble, Blaine Burnett, Renee Wilkie, Gary Burnett, Jarod Burnett, Christopher Turner, April Garrison, Ryan Blystone, Karlee Blystone, 26 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren, his sister, Lillie Almond, her daughter, niece Linda Waltman, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her children: Tracy Benavides and husband Michael, Cathy Isbell and husband David, Donny Herman and wife Regina, Lenny (Robert) Herman and partner Miraiah. Grandchildren Brittany Benavidez, Shyanne Benavidez, Michael Benavidez, Chasity Herman, Logan Herman, Bryan Herman, Cody Lee Herman, Ares Jean Herman, and 9 great grandchildren
